Lake Victoria 100; The Graham Centenary Expedition

Train My Generation has partnered with the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation and a coaltion of other African and international organisations to plan and launch Lake Victoria's most ambitious and advanced research survey and community project ever.

In 1927 Michael Graham conducted the first lake-wide fisheries survey on Lake Victoria and in 2027, we are repeating that study.  We will compare fish data and samples taken from the lake in 1927 to see what ecological changes have taken place.

We will also study water quality, land to lake dynamics, climactic changes and pollution levels, along side community livelihood research.

The objective is to better understand the lake so we can ensure its long term health.

Impact is the goal and we will work with policy makers, the private sector and local communities; giving them the insights and tools they need to sustain lake health.

As part of this we will be recruiting over 100,000 individual and business Lake Guardians to act as stewards of the lake and to ensure its population of over 42m value, protect and enjoy the lake's health

Our Role

Train My Generation is supporting LV100 through central coordination, stakeholder management, fund-raising and communications.  We also are developing the community engagement plan, ensuring the voices of the lake are heard and its communities given the tools to lead on lake stewardship.  We are part of a coalition with a long term view.
